New Zealand has a long history of sustainable plantation forestry. It is from these managed forest plantations that the wood for Bodyguard® is sourced.
New Zealand pine is first selected for appearance; defects are removed; then it is finger-jointed to provide stability and strength as an engineered wood product.
Bodyguard® is protected with an azole based Light Organic Solvent Preservative (LOSP) treatment system. This is a proven wood treatment system with an enviable 30-Year history in Australia, Asia and Europe. The system used for Bodyguard® contains no corrosive heavy metals, is organically based and is approved in the USA by the EPA.
The active ingredients of Tebuconazole and Propiconazole provide fungicide protection against rot and decay. These products are used extensively for food and crop protection. Permethrin provides insect (including termite) protection. Permethrin is a natural-based insecticide, also used in household insect sprays and in food crop protection systems.
To further enhance Bodyguard‘s durability, a coat of a quality oil-based (alkyd) wood primer is applied, which penetrates and seals the wood providing robust protection against the elements during the construction process. This protection is assisted by a second top coat, which also ensures a smooth paint-ready surface.
As the organic wood treatment system used does not contain corrosive heavy metals, it will not cause corrosion to nails and other fastening systems. However, as Bodyguard® lumber products are designed for the outdoors, such as exterior mouldings, trimboards and sidings, we recomment you select fastening systems that will provide long-term durability against the elements.
